From
the Chairman. . .
I am honored to serve as
the 2010 Chairman of the Terrell Chamber of Commerce Convention
and Visitors Bureau. During my career, I have had the
opportunity to work and be active in several communities
in several states, but nowhere have I experienced the
positive interaction between the business community and
its citizens as I have witnessed in Terrell. This has
been exemplified on more than one occasion when the entire
community of Terrell demonstrated its true love for country
and community by lining the streets honoring the return
of their fallen heroes. Young men who paid the ultimate
sacrifice serving their country to ensure our freedom.
Last year’s Chairman, Bill Sweezee said it best
when he described our Chamber as “undeniably the
best ‘small town’ Chamber in Texas”.
Success is fueled by not only a dedicated and experienced
staff but by the spirit of volunteerism in our business
community and the citizens of Terrell. It goes without
saying, the Chamber appreciates the continued support
of our Mayor, City Council, City Management, the TECD
Board and the TISD. I’m excited about the foresight
of the civic leaders and the TISD for the continuing development
of the Career Technical Program. This will offer our youth
an opportunity to develop skills to be productive citizens
in the work force after graduation.
Some of 2010’s Chamber’s program of work
will include our Heritage Jubilee, 4th of July celebration,
send offs for our armed forces, Kaufman county Leadership,
new business ribbon-cuttings, Christmas parade and the
fund raiser for all of the programs, the 29th annual Civic
Auction. Despite the economic conditions, last year’s
auction raised in excess of $160,000. That could not have
been accomplished without everyone’s support.
In conclusion, I pledge my support to the purpose of
the Chamber as outlined in its Bylaws. The Chamber was
organized to advance the general welfare and prosperity
in the Terrell area, so that its citizens and all areas
of its business community shall prosper. Particular attention
and emphasis shall be given to the economic, civic, commercial,
cultural, industrial, and educational interest of the
area.
Together we need to commit to support Terrell as a city
with its focus on tomorrow while holding on to its charm
of yesterday.
I would like to thank Bill Sweezee for his leadership
during 2009 and look forward to a prosperous but challenging
2010.
