Community Development Division

Olivia Rice, Vice Chairman

Goal – Improve quality of life through increased community awareness and enhance educational, recreational, safety, and cultural programs

Public Relations

·       Encourage diversity in membership and chamber activities.

·       Cross promote new websites:  Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development and Terrell I.S.D.

·   Collaborate with TISD and other non-profits to update the Community Resource Guide, including a Spanish translation and distribute the guide through the library, police station, chamber, and schools.  Include Community Resource Guide on the website.  Redesign the front cover for 2017

Community Education

·       Support TISD/Share Center Back To School program.

·       Provide recognition gift for campus Teachers of the Year

·       Continue to support the TISD Career and Technology Program for the City of Terrell and Kaufman County by developing and fostering relationships.

·       Continue supporting the Southwestern Christian College Lectureship Series and summer programs. Work on developing activities for attendees that coincide with lectureship series.  Coordinate with Warren Roberts. Promote through Social Media.

·       Support the Kaufman County Livestock Show.

·       Continue to fund four (4) scholarship to Terrell High School seniors. Recognize donors of local scholarships.

·       Support TISD Schools by being a “Box Top for Education” drop-off site.

Government Affairs

·       Participate in Kaufman County Day events in Austin and encourage participation in the TABC breakfast.

Community Affairs

·       Continue to work with Small Business Organization in advertising and promotion of Christmas in July and Small Business Saturday.

·       Ensure that advertising efforts for events focus on areas outside of Terrell and include Internet promotions via such as Pandora and Facebook.

·       Support the Downtown Terrell programs.  Ex.: Trick or Treat, Shop Home for the Holidays and the Art Walk. Expand downtown Terrell events to include a music festival or other cultural activities that will draw crowds from outlying areas.

·       Continue after-hours mixers and encourage more support by Chamber members.

·       Support the City of Terrell Veterans Memorial Park.

·       Develop more awareness with Kaufman County Crime Stoppers.

·       Expand holiday events to increase attendance and promote tourism. Consider hosting multiple holiday activities in conjunction with a theme (example – It’s a Wonderful Life or The 12 Days of Christmas).

·       Offer help to youth sports in Terrell, through providing registration availability.

·       Investigate Summer Youth Program with the City of Terrell

·       Support Santa’s Workshop downtown

·       Continue with development for Kiosk at Buc-ee’s, add screen to Chamber lobby and perhaps a new running board to promote Historic Downtown.

·       Develop lectureship series and other events in conjunction with BFTS Fly-in in September.

·       Develop link between Chamber Webpage and Excel Building Webpage four youth programs.
